A few evenings ago I almost stopped reading halfway through an article. I'd already decided I understood the point. For whatever reason, I stayed with it. The last few paragraphs completely changed how I interpreted everything that came before.

It reminded me how often we leave just before the interesting part begins. We assume we have enough information when we've really only seen the introduction. That happens with books, conversations, and sometimes opportunities too.

Most people either check something like this once now... or they forget about it completely. Very few come back later and find exactly what they missed.

What began as a routine engineering repair beneath the South China Sea gradually uncovered hidden systems, private infrastructure, and a story that continues to raise fascinating questions about wealth and influence.
