I Made A Pros And Cons List… Then Made Another One

🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔 🌕

Dear Readers,

I had a decision sitting in front of me recently and did what sensible people supposedly do. I wrote down the advantages, the drawbacks, what could go right, and what I might regret.

It helped—for about ten minutes. Then I thought of another possibility, changed the list, reconsidered something I'd already settled, and somehow ended up less certain than when I started.

That's the strange thing about overthinking. It often disguises itself as preparation. You feel responsible because you're examining every possibility, when sometimes you're simply postponing the discomfort of choosing one.

Eventually, no new information is entering the equation. You're just moving the same pieces around and hoping they'll arrange themselves into certainty.

I've started paying attention to that point. When another round of thinking produces another round of thinking, I don't automatically assume the answer is to keep going.

The Most Interesting Discoveries Usually Begin With Curiosity [Ad]

I've learned that the most memorable things I read rarely begin with bold promises. They usually begin with a simple question that quietly stays in your mind long after you've finished reading. That's exactly how I felt when I came across this.

You never know where one unexpected discovery might lead.

I still like a good pros and cons list. I just don't expect it to remove every uncomfortable part of making a choice.

Sometimes clarity arrives only after you stop demanding certainty first.
