I Had A Free Evening And Somehow Couldn’t Enjoy It
🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔 🌕
Dear Readers,
I had an unexpectedly free evening recently. No unfinished work that absolutely had to be done, nowhere to go, and nobody waiting for something from me.
It should have felt relaxing. Instead, I kept drifting between things without really settling into any of them. Even choosing what I wanted to do felt oddly demanding.
I think we sometimes confuse available time with available capacity. The obligations can disappear from the calendar while the mind is still carrying the residue of everything that came before them.
And you can't always think yourself out of that state. I tried deciding what would make the evening feel worthwhile, which only turned relaxation into another small problem I needed to solve.
That's why I'm becoming more interested in things that interrupt the usual mental pattern rather than adding another instruction to it. When your bandwidth is already thin, another answer isn't always what you need.
Some Things Find You At Exactly The Right Time [Ad]
Every now and then I come across something that feels strangely well-timed. Not because it promises answers… but because it encourages you to pause and look at your life from a completely different angle. This was one of those discoveries for me, and I thought it was worth sharing.
Sometimes a different perspective is more valuable than another opinion.
I eventually stopped trying to make that evening productive, meaningful, or even particularly relaxing. Once I stopped asking something from it, it became much easier to be there.
Maybe capacity returns differently than time does.
